Why Choose the Summer Showdown Lacrosse Camp?
Five honest reasons, and none of them are that we are the best in the world.
We are actually from here
Coach Paul was born and raised in San Antonio and played at Saint Mary’s Hall. This is not a camp that flies in for a week and leaves. It is the only locally owned and operated summer lacrosse camp in San Antonio, and it has been running for fifteen years because this city is home.
This camp exists because someone did it for us
Legendary coach Earl Bill built the Alamo Lacrosse Camp, and Paul and his brothers grew up in it as players and came back to coach it. When that camp closed, they started this one so the next generation of San Antonio players would not lose what they had. We coach in his memory.
The same coaches, every year
Our staff does not turn over between summers. These are experienced coaches your player will see again next year and the year after — and Coach Paul is a USA Lacrosse Certified Platinum Level Coach for both boys and girls, and the Varsity Head Coach at Central Catholic.
The best players in the city, in one place
Players find a real challenge right here in Texas. Summer Showdown pulls players from schools and clubs all across San Antonio, so your athlete spends the week competing against the kids they will face all season.
Beginners are not an afterthought
We group by age and skill level so nobody is lost and nobody is bored. A first-time player receives real coaching from step one, not a spot at the back of the line while the experienced kids scrimmage.

Why did we start a summer lacrosse camp in San Antonio, Texas?
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, San Antonio was the epicenter of Texas lacrosse. During that time, legendary Coach Earl Bill at Saint Mary’s Hall built a powerhouse program that captured three consecutive state championships from 1998 to 2000. At the same time, Coach Bill founded the Alamo Lacrosse Camp. It quickly became a summer tradition and, at its peak, welcomed 150 players from all across the state.
My brothers and I grew up playing for Coach Bill at SMH, attending the Alamo Summer Camp, and eventually returning to coach after we graduated. In many ways, it shaped us not only as players, but as leaders. However, like many great chapters, the Alamo Camp eventually came to a close.
The following summer, my brothers and I felt a responsibility to carry the tradition forward. We knew what the camp had meant to us, and we understood what its absence would mean for the next generation of San Antonio lacrosse players. Determined to honor Coach Bill’s legacy, we stepped forward and founded the Summer Showdown Lacrosse Camp. It even ran a year in Denver while I coached there, before coming home to San Antonio where it belongs.
Today, Summer Showdown remains the only locally owned and operated summer lacrosse camp in San Antonio. Looking back, it has been incredibly rewarding to positively impact so many athletes. None of it would have been possible without Coach Bill, and we are proud to continue coaching in his memory.
Giving Back for the Greater Good
We donate to these three organizations every single year. When your family signs up for camp, a piece of that goes right back into the game and into the community.
